We have completed Croes Fach, a new 400sqm family home located at the foot of Sugar Loaf mountain in the Brecon Beacons. The spectacular location prompted a design response which makes the landscape a constant companion to everyday family living.
An 18m long wall of glass offers immense views of the ever-changing natural setting. Looking out from this, an open plan first floor space brings the kitchen, dining area and lounge together, stepping out on to a slate flagged terrace which connects directly to the upper level of the site’s flowing topography. The main dwelling connects at ground floor to a grandparent’s annex and garage.
Stone quarried locally within the Black Mountains is laid in the manner of dry-stone walling and is used as part of an overall composition incorporating cedar, glass, zinc and steel.
Creating a new home in the National Park is a rare privilege and we sought to reflect our clients’ extraordinary commitment in the architectural design and realisation of Croes Fach.
