Pool & Spa, Gloucestershire

Work has completed on a private spa building in Gloucestershire, extending an elegant country house built in the Georgian and Victorian periods. The purpose built 21st extension provides a swimming pool, gymnasium and changing rooms, connected via a stone and glass link to the original house.

The building accommodates a 15m long pool, lined with slate grey tiles to provide an inky reflection to the glazed roof spine. Glass walls look onto an idyllic woodland setting within the Wye Valley AONB.

The timber roof is lifted above a band of clerestory glazing which rests on a wall of locally quarried stone. Slender steel connections enable the bringing together of structural elements with unusual lightness. The spa building seeks to compliment the beautiful natural environment in which it sits.
